if my boyfriend is allergic to dog hair would a french poodle be OK?
My boyfriend is allergic to dog and horse fur, but we both love animals. I have heard off of several people that french poodle fur is OK for people with a dog fur allergy. Is this true? Because if it is, I might get one.
Generally the allergy is not to the dog’s fur, but to its dander. Dogs with hair, instead of fur, or dogs that shed very little, generally have less dander. There’s a number of breeds that are “hypoallergenic”, including the poodle (a breed with hair instead of fur), so that’s probably a good choice for your boyfriend.
I’d suggest when considering a particular dog, have your boyfriend come along to make sure he doesn’t have a reaction, before you decide to adopt the dog.
